WOODFIRED CLAY

In Holland we have hardly any tradition with firing clay. Since 2000 I got interested in the most primitive way of firing my works: with wood. In Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China I especially made works with local clay and fired it with local wood firing techniques, kiln masters and kilns. Here I found out that firing is a real part of the process: the kiln gives and the kiln takes. It is exciting and it brings me closer to my own work.
