Adriaan Rees

In 2014 I took the sculpture The Acrobat with me to Berlin. I was invited to work as artist in residence in a studio in the east part of the city. When my son Sam Rees was visiting me, I asked him to join me in making a special piece in the Mauer Park. This area is a famous meeting place for young people and all sorts of recreation and sports but also has this tragic history with West and East Berlin and the Wall that separated the two parts during the Cold War. In the park we found a wall to make the installation Mein Land. The silver polyester acrobat leans to the wall. A big graffiti piece with Mein Land and big targets is colorfully covering the wall and the sculpture. The Acrobat is almost disappearing and becomes one with the wall and the work.
