Carry me is a granite pine cone. Rees had it cut by local stone masons to his specifications after a real pine cone, which he found ten years ago somewhere in France. It is his second work in stone. In 1994 he made his first one, De Steenhouwer. Softer than granite he nevertheless found it a laborious undertaking, never to be repeated again.
Because in China he could contract out all the heavy handiwork which made him decide that carving stone was not his thing, he decided to have a go at it once more. So in Carry me, Rees restricted his own contribution to finding and keeping the cone, selecting the granite from which the cone is cut, and giving directions as to its size, polishing, and so on.
